Foreclosure Fighter Dina Titus Wants to Help You As the foreclosure crisis has hit Southern Nevada hard, Congress and the Obama Administration have taken a number of steps to create programs aimed at helping people stay in their homes. Many of these programs provide incentives to mortgage lenders to work with homeowners to modify or refinance their loans in an effort to avoid foreclosure. Many people have had a difficult time communicating with their lenders, even if it’s just to find out if they qualify for the programs. In order for these programs to be successful, mortgage lenders must make a concerted effort to comply with the programs and work with homeowners. If you have had difficulty reaching your lender and believe you qualify for help, contact Dina Titus. Lenders must participate in these plans in order for them to be successful and so we can solve the housing crisis, which is a critical element in our national recovery from this recession. By sharing your personal story, Dina can work on behalf of Nevadans so that homeowners at risk of foreclosure get the help they need to stay in their home. Congresswoman Titus believes it is important that lenders communicate with their clients, and will do what she can to encourage them to do so. Your story can shine a light on lenders that have not been responsive to their customers in hopes that they will be encouraged to take action. |
Nevada Foreclosure Mediation Program The Foreclosure Mediation Program was established as a result of the Assembly Bill 149, passed during the 2009 session of the Nevada Legislature. Its purpose is to address the foreclosure crisis head-on and to help keep Nevada families in their homes.
This law establishes a Foreclosure Mediation Program for owner-occupied residential properties that are subject to foreclosure notices – formally known as a Notice of Default and Election to Sell – filed on or after July 1, 2009. Mediation is an alternative method to help parties resolve disputes by agreement with the help of trained mediators. |

AARP: AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization for those 50+. AARP has been working with Congress to address the current mortgage crisis; supporting legislation designed to help people facing foreclosure stay in their homes while paying off their debt and allowing bankruptcy judges to restructure mortgage loans for primary residences. This would help 7,448 Nevadans age 50+ who are in or near foreclosure. AARP's Nevada State Office also testified in support of AB 149, a state legislative bill to improve consumer protections that shield homeowners against predatory mortgage practices. |
